Dyneema® fiber is used in a variety of applications and environments, with broad ranges in temperature and loading conditions. Dyneema® SK78 can withstand extreme temperature fluctuations – making it equally suitable for use in the Arctic as in the Middle East. In addition, Avient’s proprietary temperature model allows for accurate prediction of rope core temperatures in high ambient temperares and/or severe use conditions. Modelling rope core temperature behavior proves the suitability of Dyneema® SK78 in Middle East mooring conditions.

FAQs

Q: What temperature conditions can Dyneema® SK78 withstand?
A: Dyneema® fiber is scientifically proven to perform very well from -40°C to 70°C, with short-term exposure up to 100°C not causing any serious loss in performance. This is well within the operating temperatures of vessel mooring lines

Q: Is the temperature performance of Dyneema® SK78 fiber affected by use in a line?
A: While individual fibers lose some strength at elevated temperatures, line strength does not deteriorate to the same degree.

Q: Can lines made with Dyneema® SK78 be used in high ambient temperatures?
A: Avient has invested in a temperature model that can predict rope core temperatures as a function of ambient temperature and load conditions. Contact us for further details.

Q: Can lines made with Dyneema® SK78 withstand extreme cold?
A: Moisture does not affect rope stiffness or strength of Dyneema® fiber – making it suitable for use in cryogenic temperatures. For this reason, Dyneema® fiber is used in hoses designed for liquefied natural gas (LNG) transfer at -162°C.
