Low Environmental Footprint
Ropes with Dyneema® have the lowest carbon footprint per unit strength. Discover more.
Using any HMPE fiber-based mooring line will lead to faster ship mooring and better ergonomics. However, only ropes made with Dyneema® SK78 fiber offer the highest safety and reliability from day one onwards. This is because they are built from an HMPE fiber material with engineered and improved characteristics to overcome the main failure mechanisms of a fiber rope.
Thanks to its unique combination of superior tension fatigue, creep life, abrasion resistance, high and low temperature performance, and a low environmental footprint – Dyneema® SK78 provides high reliability, superior service life and the peace of mind operators need to deliver cost-effective, safe, and efficient mooring in ever more challenging conditions.
Why are mooring lines made with Dyneema® SK78 safer and more reliable? Dyneema® SK78 fiber is deliberately engineered with material properties that address the mooring conditions at a wide range of berthing environments from around the world. It delivers 3x higher fatigue and up to 4x higher abrasion resistance compared to alternatives.

We are committed to engineering reliability into mooring ropes made with Dyneema® SK78. Engineering can not only be a paper exercise it must be proven with tangible assets. To be able to study and improve rope durability we have designed and built bespoke testing equipment suited for end use mooring applications.

Avient has taken the next major step in its sustainability journey by introducing the first ever bio-based HMPE fiber (branded as Dyneema®) and further reducing its reliance on fossil fuel based resources. Ethylene is the primary raw material used to manufacture Dyneema® fibers, and is the feedstock that will be transitioned from conventional to a renewable source via mass balancing.
Did you know that for every 100 meters, mooring lines made with bio-based Dyneema® have a carbon footprint that’s more than 1800 kgs CO₂ less than generic HMPE?

Take a look at our customer success stories to see how mooring ropes made with Dyneema® proved to be very strong, reliable, and durable in the hardest environmental conditions.
“During these ten years, lines made with Dyneema® fiber have exceeded our expectations by the clear performance over lifetime, efficiency and safety benefits they bring. We are delighted to extend our relationship with long-term partner Avient and will apply lines made with Dyneema® SK78 fiber on further oil tankers.”
“Since the bad weather prevented us from getting close to the vessel, the only option was to transfer ropes to the ship by helicopter. Ropes made with Dyneema® were the obvious choice; light enough for the job, while providing the strength we needed for the refloating efforts.”
“Dyneema® SK78 has a proven abrasion lifetime that is four times longer than generic HMPE. We can visually monitor them [the AmSteel®-Blue ropes made with Dyneema®] on an ongoing basis, allowing for better decision-making.”
