Dyneema® fabric: woven by science and proven in nature

To make the most of the great outdoors, adventurers need gear that never lets them down. That’s why leading global designers harness Dyneema®’s exceptional strength-to-weight ratio to create ultra-light outdoor gear with the best equipment specs on the market.

Unrivaled strength on every trail

When it comes to strength and tear resistance, Dyneema® is way ahead of the pack. In fact, we can deliver the exact tear and tensile strength a product requires by altering the density of fibers in our Dyneema® Composite Fabrics. In addition, fabrics with Dyneema® have high tear strength and are used in highly durable backpacks. If you’re looking for a product that can handle the rough and tumble of the great outdoors, look for Dyneema® inside.

Lightening the load of adventure

Outdoor gear made with Dyneema® isn’t just stronger; it’s a whole lot lighter, too. For tents, this means achieving weight savings of up to 50% compared to nylon fabric, which makes all the difference on expeditions where every pound counts. For bags and backpacks, our strong focus on creating ultra-light fabrics allows adventurers to move faster and more comfortably. And because of the lightweight strength of Dyneema®, bags and backpacks are far more stable and easier to carry.

Reliable, durable performance – whatever the weather

As any seasoned climber or hiker knows, you need to be prepared for anything Mother Nature throws your way – and this is where Dyneema® really makes an impact. Articles made with Dyneema® Composite Fabric are completely waterproof and, unlike those made with nylons or silnylons, don’t stretch or sag in wet weather.

Sustainable adventures: Our bio-based guarantee

Hiking is all about cherishing and respecting the planet that sustains us all – and that same ethos inspires our approach to manufacturing Dyneema®.

For starters, all Dyneema® Composite Fabrics are made using 100% bio-based Dyneema® fiber, which carries a 90% lower carbon footprint than generic HMPE fiber. Then there’s the energy used in our manufacturing processes – 100% of which comes from renewable sources.

How we create and test Dyneema® fabrics

Dyneema® fiber is a form of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) which has been molecularly engineered to make it the world’s strongest fiber™.

Dyneema® Composite Fabric is created using layers of Dyneema® fibers specially  tailored to deliver the required strength, stretch, weight and minimum thickness.

To be sure that outdoor gear made with Dyneema® performs to the highest standards, we use our state-of-the-art capabilities to test our fabrics according to the demands of their end-use application.

With technical centers in Singapore, the Netherlands, and the USA, we (and our customers) can count on cutting-edge testing capabilities including:

Tensile testing

Measures strength and elasticity of woven fabrics

Tear testing

Measures the resistance of yarns and fibers to tearing following an incision

UV testing

Tests the capacity of the fabric to resist UV degradation

Puncture testing

Subjects stretched fabrics to loads applied by a puncture probe to test resistance

Martindale abrasion testing

Measures the durability of a fabric via its resistance to wear from consistent abrasion

Water resistance testing

Tests a fabric for its permeability to water under pressure

Breathability testing

Measures the capacity of a fabric to resist water vapor permeability. The lower the resistance the more breathable the fabric.

Air permeability testing

Measures how easily air passes through a fabric. For wind and weather resistant fabrics.
