Use our mooring rope lifetime tool

When it comes to rope reliability and maritime safety, break strength doesn’t tell the full story. Internal fatigue is a primary cause of rope failure – and it’s completely hidden from view. Until now.

Fatigue – the process of fiber degradation – is invisible to the eye, meaning that damage can’t be detected from visual inspection. What’s more, fatigue can happen more quickly or slowly depending on the conditions in which the rope is used. The three parameters affecting the rate of fatigue are the time under load, the tension level, and the operating temperature. Together, we call these factors the 3Ts.

Dyneema® fiber is engineered to resist fatigue at the polymer level. This gives ropes made with Dyneema® a unique buffer between discard point and failure. With this fatigue buffer, crews can rely on their ropes to remain strong until the end of their service life, ensuring safer and more reliable mooring operations.
